How do I back up, export, or move my NozomuNoto planner to a new device?

Keep your original download and filled planner separate, choose the right backup format, and check your notes before switching devices.

Applies to: Original files + filled working planners · Your old and destination apps · Exact device/app dependent.

Files: App-native backup where available, PDF export. A clean product download does not recover handwriting; native files may not transfer between apps.

Your original NozomuNoto download and the planner you have written in are two different files to protect. Downloading the original PDF again gives you a clean planner, not a recovery copy of your handwriting.

Keep these copies separate

  • Original product files: the clean PDF, sticker files, covers, and instructions from your download.
  • Filled working planner: the document in your app with your handwriting, text, stickers, and page changes.
  • A dated backup or export: a saved copy of that filled planner, stored somewhere you can still access if the device is lost.

Choose the format for what you need

Use your app's native backup or document format when available if you need to restore its editable notes. Native files may require the same app and a compatible platform.

A PDF export is useful for reading and archiving your filled pages, but it is not automatically a complete app backup. Export settings can change how writing, outlines, or planner links behave.

For example, Goodnotes explains Editable and Flattened PDF exports. Its documented choices differ in preservation of the original PDF links and outlines. Check the exported file instead of assuming every option keeps the same behavior.

Sync is not the same as a separate backup

Sync keeps a library updated across devices; a separate backup gives you another copy to recover from. Do not rely only on seeing the same notebook on two synced screens.

Goodnotes' Auto Backup guide distinguishes one-way backup from two-way sync. Its manual backup guide gives the current backup and restoration steps. Use the matching instructions for your app and platform.

Before moving to a new device

  1. Back up the filled planner first. Use your app's documented backup or export tools. Wait for the operation to finish and give the saved file a clear name with the date.
  2. Check the saved copy. Open the PDF export and find a recent page with writing. For a native backup, follow the app maker's restoration checks without overwriting your only working library.
  3. Check the destination app. Confirm the format it can import and the account or cloud service it uses. App purchase access and document syncing are separate questions.
  4. Transfer or restore through the documented route. If you are changing apps or operating systems, check whether native files transfer. A PDF may keep pages readable without retaining the same editing tools.
  5. Check your actual work on the new device. Open a recent filled page, test a planner link, and check the writing or page tools you need. Confirm that the most recent notes arrived.
  6. Keep the old copy until the checks pass. Do not erase the old device or delete its library while it is your only reliable copy.

If you need help finding the right guide

Send me your old device, new device, app names, and whether you need to keep handwriting editable or only keep a readable archive. Keep both copies while we check the next step.
