Before changing your cover

Save a clean backup of your planner or notebook first. Then check what type of cover file you have.

  1. Use a PDF cover when you want to insert or replace a full page.
  2. Use a PNG or JPG cover when you want to place it as an image.
  3. Use a Notability-specific cover file only when the product clearly includes one.
  4. Decide whether you want to replace the current first page or insert a new cover page.
  5. After the cover change, check that the planner opens and the main links still work.

Keep your original planner file saved outside Notability in case you want to start again.

Use these for current app or device help, downloads, updates, vendor help, and manual references.

Change the visible cover in Notability

  1. Save a clean backup of the planner or notebook outside Notability.
  2. Check the cover file type: use a PDF cover for a full page, or a PNG/JPG cover when you want to place the cover as an image.
  3. Import or insert the cover into the Notability note.
  4. Open Content Manager and decide whether the cover should replace the first page or become a new page at the front.

  5. Move the cover page to the top of the note if you want it to appear first.
  6. If you are using Notability template settings, remember that templates are page backgrounds and are different from linked NozomuNoto PDF planner pages.
  7. After moving the cover, test Index and a few tabs before writing more.

Cover checks in Notability

1. PDF cover page

Use a PDF cover when you want the cover to behave like a full planner page. Put it at the front with Content Manager when you want it to become the visible note thumbnail.

2. PNG or JPG cover image

Use a PNG or JPG cover when you want to place the cover as an image on an existing page. Add Media or Photos can place images, and the image can be moved on the page.

3. Notability template settings

Template settings are for page backgrounds. They are separate from linked NozomuNoto PDF planner pages, so use them only when you truly want a Notability background.

If the cover looks wrong

Use a cover made for the same orientation and format. If the cover change makes navigation confusing, return to a clean imported copy and try again with fewer page changes.
